Pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. was subject to a $2.6-million jury verdict yesterday concerning its acne treatment Accutane. In a New Jersey court, a 10-person jury awarded the money for past medical expenses and compensatory damages to a man whose inflammatory bowel disorder was proven to be caused by Accutane. Inflammatory bowel disorder is a lesser-known side effect of Accutane but the warning label did not adequatel make this known. The money awarded the plaintiff will go towards future medical costs, as well as pain and suffering.
