Makers of the diet medication fen-phen, American Home Products Corporation, agreed to a $3.75 billion settlement. Fen-phen consists of the drugs fenfluramine and phentermine. The medication, which had been consumed by thousands of people before its removal from the market in 1997, had been linked to heart valvular heart disease and pulmonary hypertension.
