Defective Chinese Drywall
During a drywall shortage between 2004 and 2007, many homes were constructed with drywall imported from China. Unfortunately, this quick fix to the drywall shortage has left thousands of home owners with strong odors, property damage and health problems.
Homeowners in Florida, Louisiana and several other states have reported a rotten egg stench coming from the defective drywall. This common sign of defective drywall is caused by high levels of sulfur in the wallboard. The sulfur compounds in the defective Chinese drywall have also corroded air conditioning wiring, forcing many homeowners to spend thousands of dollars on multiple repairs.
Other signs of defective Chinese drywall include:
